ShareMyPlate ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name.
- Profile Information: You may optionally provide age, weight, height, sex, health goals, dietary restrictions, and allergies to personalize your experience.
- Meal Photos: Photos you take or upload for meal analysis.
- User Content: Comments, ratings, and other content you share within the app.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage Data: Information about how you use the app, including features accessed and time spent.
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers.
- Analytics: Aggregated, anonymized data to improve our services.
1.3 Information from Third Parties
- Authentication: If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive basic profile information from those services.
1.4 Apple HealthKit Data
With your explicit permission, ShareMyPlate can integrate with Apple HealthKit. This integration is entirely optional and controlled by you.
Data We May Read from HealthKit
- Body Measurements: Weight and height for accurate calorie calculations
- Characteristics: Biological sex and date of birth for personalized nutrition targets
- Activity Data: Steps and active calories burned to personalize your daily targets
- Workouts: Exercise sessions to adjust your nutrition goals after physical activity
Data We May Write to HealthKit
- Nutrition: Calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, sugar, and sodium from your analyzed meals
- Water: Hydration intake detected from your meals (optional)
- Caffeine: Caffeine content from coffee and tea in your meals (optional)
How HealthKit data leaves your device: ShareMyPlate only accesses the HealthKit data types you authorize. Most of it is used on your device. The exceptions:
- When you analyze a meal or view your daily targets, today's active calories, step count, and a short summary of today's workouts are sent to our servers, and for meal analysis to our AI provider (Google Gemini), only to personalize that feedback and those targets.
- Weight, height, biological sex, and date of birth that you choose to import are saved to your ShareMyPlate profile, because they are used to calculate your recommended daily calorie target.
We never sell HealthKit data, never use it for advertising or marketing, and never share it for any other purpose. You can revoke access at any time through the iOS Settings app or within ShareMyPlate's settings.
We use HealthKit data solely to:
- Adjust your daily calorie and nutrition targets based on your activity level
- Provide workout-based nutrition recommendations using AI
- Log your meal nutrition to Apple Health for consolidated health tracking
1.5 Android Health Connect Data
With your explicit permission, ShareMyPlate for Android can integrate with Health Connect. This integration is optional and controlled by you. ShareMyPlate requests only the data types below, each for a specific feature:
Data We May Read from Health Connect
- Active calories burned: to add your optional activity bonus to today's calorie target, show today's activity, and tell the meal analysis how active you have been today
- Exercise sessions: to list today's workouts and adjust your protein and carbohydrate guidance after a workout
- Weight: to keep your profile weight current, so your recommended daily calorie target stays accurate
- Height: to keep your profile height current; together with weight it is used to calculate your recommended daily calorie target
Data We May Write to Health Connect
- Nutrition: the meals you log in ShareMyPlate (calories and macronutrients), so your other health apps can include them
How Health Connect data is handled: when you analyze a meal or view your daily targets, today's active calories and a short summary of today's workouts are sent to our servers, and for meal analysis to our AI provider (Google Gemini), only to personalize that feedback and those targets. Weight and height you sync are saved to your ShareMyPlate profile. We never sell Health Connect data, never use it for advertising or marketing, and never share it for any other purpose. You can turn each data type off in Profile → Health Connect, or revoke access at any time in Health Connect.
The use of information received from Health Connect will adhere to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve our services
- Analyze meal photos using AI to provide nutrition information
- Personalize your experience based on your health goals and preferences
- Process your subscription and payments
- Send you notifications about your meals and reminders (with your consent)
- Enable social features like sharing with friends
- Respond to your comments, questions, and requests
- Monitor and analyze trends and usage
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:
- With Your Consent: When you choose to share content with friends or publicly.
- Service Providers: With third-party vendors who assist us in providing services (e.g., cloud hosting, analytics).
- Legal Requirements: If required by law or to protect our rights and safety.
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

- Google Gemini AI: Meal photo analysis and workout-based nutrition recommendations

- Google Play: Subscription processing on Android

4. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time through the app settings or by contacting us.
- Account Data: Retained until you delete your account
- Meal Photos: Retained based on your subscription tier (free tier: 7 days; paid tiers: indefinitely or as specified)
- Analytics Data: Retained in anonymized form indefinitely
5. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Correction: Update or correct your information through the app
- Deletion: Delete your account and associated data
- Portability: Request your data in a portable format
- Opt-out: Disable notifications and certain data collection

ShareMyPlate is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

Summary
